The RIP DIVA Artist Statement

In 2013, I created RIP DIVA, an animated video marking the ‘death’ of my life in the spotlight. I didn’t realise then that this eulogy would take ten years to fully write. Twelve O’clock-tales and After-hours Thoughts documents that funeral. It is the record of how I used the bar’s rituals—the recipes, the service, the sensory details—to rehabilitate my own mind.
Finishing these 55 vignettes gave me the clarity to leave the industry and work within the Traumatic Brain Injury department at Sunnaas Hospital, where I helped others rebuild their lives. I have learned that whether you are mixing a Martini or studying the human brain, the goal is the same: to find the balance between the wild and the disciplined. This book is for anyone who has ever had to bury who they were to become who they are.
